Listen with effect --cuts out.

Postby arenson » Thu Feb 08, 2007 9:34 am

Ok
I have been enjoying recording and listening to a bit of reverb using software audio thru selected.

(I found if i have send mid way it is best, and the wet single only. if I have wet and dry, I get what sounds like ricochetting. I listen with headphones and the dial on the firepod is continuous, listen to recored audio, listen to mix, or listen to both.

Anyway, that is not the big problem.)

But as I record, after about 10 seconds the reverb effect drops out on me. Disconcerting. If I stop, click bypass, and then again click to activate the effect, I hear it.

This does not affect recording, but still I wish the effect did not cut out.

Any clues?

Thanks

What reverb are you using and what version of Metro?

Most likely this is due to overload protection technology. You can either disable it from the preferences dialog or turn your input volume down.

Reverb is APPLE AU MATRIX

metro 6.3.82

not using aux bus for effects.

(would but I lost the link the quick start to aux buss for effects I think you wrote)

inut and output is same
track 1 output presonus 1 input presonus 1
(so mixer fasers correspond with track numbers)

software audio thru

Got it.

Postby arenson » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:46 pm

Will try tomorrow as now almost 3 AM.

By the way, do you have the address of the quick start for busses. I had it last time but lost it.

Thanks

Please don't post messages with just a subject as they are very hard to see.

:!: Also be careful because with the overload protection off your ears are vulnerable to loud noises. :!:

Ok, sorry

Postby arenson » Fri Feb 09, 2007 12:43 am

Thansk for the warning. I am mainly acoustic, butu will be careful.

I tried the effects, ok. Now i am trying to find out whay I cannot yet get the aux bus to work.

I have the faders. In fact, too many. Way back when, I went and preassigned 14 faders, duplicating so that I can visually group the voice and guitar and keyboard.

Out 1 In 1 (mic 1)
Out 2 In 2 (mic)
Out 3 In 3(keyboard 1)
Out 4 In 4 (KB2)
Out 5 all same as 1-4
Out 6
Out 7
Out 8

Out 9 All same as 1-4 -made them but not assigned in track window.
Only made them with MODIFY OUTPUTS AND BUSSES originally
Out 10
Out 11
Out 12
Out 13
Out 14

And so on, mainly
HOPE THIS WAS NOT A NONO...

I made like 14 faders. To fit on the screen I deletd the MIDI faders as I do not use Midi.

Ok, this is all old.

SOME MORE THINGS WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELEVANT

Also, in Digital Setup (old stuff) one thing I never quite got is why RECORD LEFT AND RIGHT ARE LISTED AS ONLY 1 (L) (or 2, 3 and 4, etc. Same for right. (there are 10 choices). I had originally chosen 3 and 4 for no particular reason, andthings have been working.

In fact the actual interface inputs are 1-10 and the outputs FROM the interface are also the same I think. Anyway, this works.

THE FADERS FOR AUX BUS

But when it came to making two aux faders--->

First thing is Ok, which faders for aux effects?

I TRIED TO DELETE THE UNUSED FADERS......I do not see an option for making the FADER WINDOW SMALLER to get rid of unused busses.

I aribitrarily chose 9 and 10, even those those faders exist in the FADER WINDOW.

2 AUX BUSSES, ONLY 3 EFFECTS

Ok...next step...AUX 1---> CAMEL CRUSHER, MATRiX REVERB
AUX 2 MONSTA CHROUS

it won't let me add any more. No clear reason why only 3 effects over two busses.

GO TO FADERS

Main view

Play my song on track 1

Meters ok in 1, Aux 1 and 2 (EFX_ and master.

Aux 1 view

FADER BEHAVIOUR different than expected

QUICK GUIDE--->

The fader assigned to track 2 will slide down to zero. This is the level of the effect for audio track 1.

REALITY--> IN MAIN VIEW, all faders up.

In AUX 1---> ONLY FADERS 1 (AND 2???!!) stary up, all others slide down.

IF I choose AUX 2, sliders 1 and 2 move a little, all others remain as they are.

---> THIS INDICATES SOMETHING NOT SET RIGHT I GUESS...

TEST

Effects do not take effect,

can you help me see what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

OH YEAH, ONE MORE UNCLEAR THING--->

If I OPEN METRO from the DESKTOP ICON I get this error (but NOT if I open the actual saved file)

-10839
MIDI Server error couldn't start the server

This is only recnt, so it seems a separate issue.

-In summary, I guess sometng about my faders already having 14 preassignments and not being to delete them from the fader window.

-Or about the l eft and right 3 and 4 outputs

-Or about the aux aux 1 taking two effects and aux 2 only 1.

These are anomolies, but perhaps not the reason?

Thanks

Now 98 percent fine

Postby arenson » Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:50 am

Thanks for all your advice, Jerm.

I am now happily using Metro. I realize I am a bit slow, but thank you for bearing with me. I decided to lay down my tracks for a few songs at a time and leave major processing for later. And now all things record, I can add effects on the vocals, I can listen as I record with playthough, the setting about deactivating protection works now (I don't lose the effect as I record (and I am careful about my ears).

The aux effects bus, in the last post I listed all the things i can guess. I get the faders reflecting the proper outputs in main view, but when I switch to aux 1, the faders do not behave the same

As noted, the fader assigned to track 2 is supposed tol slide down to zero.

REALITY--> IN MAIN VIEW, all faders up.

In AUX 1---> ONLY FADERS 1 (AND 2???!!) stay up, all others slide down.

Somewhere in my last post may be the key--I hope. But not able to pinpoint it. I think I am following the directions in the fast start, except that I originally had faders assigned to outputs 1-14 and therefore I wonder if there is some conflict between the aux bus faders and the ones I preassigned.

You are welcome.

I don't understand. When you switch to aux 1, the faders should slide down because they are no longer audio volume faders. Now they are aux send faders. That is what it means when you select aux. Also in the aux view there is a popup to select for pre/post.

Ok

Setting up a new recording session.

Set 1234 in and out the same. 1 and 2 mics, 3 and 4 keyboards. and no other tracks being used.

But fader number remains at 14..assume for a moment that whatever I previously set up remains. Anyway, have not assigned any other ins and outs.

have a short recording on track 1.

Now allocated two aux busses on 5 and 6 (unused or unassigned, though I do have faders for the on the mixer)

Added one effect on each aux channel (1 and 2 respectively)

Went to Mixer
Click Aux 1

Tracks 1 and 2 remain up, all other trackes down.

Opposiet of expected.

And no effect comes through.

I did not see a reference to pre and popst (pre shows the sound before the
effect?) But has no effect.

Do I need to do something with 5 and 6 on the track wondow to reflect that i allocated them for aux 1 and 2?

Is the fact that there are faders from 1 to 14 mean there is a conflict with
the assignment of 5 and 6 to aux?

What else might I look at?

Thanks...

3 Am here. Will try agan tomorrow.
