stanard MIDI file transfers

Postby RBlooz » Tue Jul 06, 2004 12:20 am

I have many MIDI sequences from Opcode's Studio Vision software that I would like to convert to Metro MIDI files. Can I do this by saving files as GM files and opening them in Metro? Is there a better way to convert? Thanks in advance.

Yes. MIDI files may be your best bet. Use Type 1 MIDI files if at all possible and don't forget to expand any subsequences in Vision, if necessary, before exporting.

Thank you. Out of curiousity, how is TYPE 1 MIDI different from Standard MIDI? (If it doesn't take a thesis to explain!) Is TYPE 1 MIDI fairly easy to find? (in the event I don't already have it).

Type 1 just means that all tracks are separated by MIDI channel. Type 0 has all the MIDI channels on a single track and will also work but is not as desirable.

That makes sense, thanks again. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, my studio is under renovation for the next month or so (hopefully no longr thatn that!) As soon as I get everything put back together I'll give it a shot.
